I’ve lost and recovered my favourite hat multiple times, and of course each time makes me more annoyed and upset

That would be helpful. I still miss the hat I left in the Ponderosa when I was 20. 🙁 The Packers won the Super bowl that year. I’ll never have a hat like that again. (Though not because the Packers won’t win again. I just loved that hat. It had such fancy embroidery.)
