Adventures in the Third Dimension!

Hello! Today is comic number one thousand! Pull up a chair, I want to talk to you for a bit.

What I really wanted to do was to have some merchandise ready to sell today. The guy you see in the comic is a prototype of the finished version, but until I find a suitable base on which to stand him he is not ready to inhabit your homes and places of work.

I’ve tried different things and racked my brain and in the end ran out of time, so I did the next best thing (hopefully?) and put this together. Don’t fret, I am not done with this idea.

Anyway I just wanted to thank everyone who has been so nice about my work over the years. Please continue to enjoy the site and by all means spread the word to your friends and family! Shout the URL at total strangers!

P.S.: I haven’t completely forgotten about the Interesting Times TV show “special edition” thing I promised either. Just mostly forgotten STILL COMING SOON

The island’s mysteries have no impact

The very first time I drew Gideon he was all black, and then the next number of times he’s gray. Which is weird, because he actually is all black. I suppose I was influenced by Bryan Lee O’Malley’s style (the cat’s name, after all, comes from his comics) and didn’t want the lines of his body to get lost in all the black. Later I came to realize that hiding those lines on purpose makes my drawing job a heck of a lot easier; just draw a black blob, some points for ears and white dots for eyes and then hey presto! The cat is curled up. No worries. [October 2, 2013]

The Wrath of Gideon

ANNOUNCING THE TINY CONTEST WINNERS:

  • Nick J., who would have brought the copy of “Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos” for the NES that I left in his car a decade ago. (This actually happened.) He also told me he was holding the game “ransom” now in exchange for one of the gift bags.
  • Sam C., who kept it admirably simple: “My A game, also nachos.” Nachos are delicious and everyone admires confidence!
  • Nick D., who wrote an epic tale about how he would actually turn out to be Dracula and would battle Simon Belmont at my party in front of everyone, including “transformation into a bat creature”. As he explained in the end, he would have “brought it” in the fight.

Nick and I have already made the exchange, and I’ll be mailing things to the others shortly! Oh, and honorable mention goes to Joel and Tenley P., who would have brought, between the two of them:

  1. A stray Bulgarian dog.
  2. “Blackthorne” for the Super Nintendo.
  3. A copy of the movie “Tremors” (and he didn’t specify but almost definitely taped off of cable)

Thanks again to everyone who entered!
