extravagant promises day

it’s been late nights yesterday (roger waters concert) and today (gvc staff party) but HOPEFULLY FRIDAY or MOST LIKELY MONDAY I will attempt to make amends for those comics which you have been denied.

no, it is not your eyes.

yes, the brushwork has looked different the last two comics. after the reinstall, I had to set up my brush settings in Corel Painter again, which is tricky because I don’t remember at all what I had them at beforehand. So I need to keep messing around until they are what they were before the reformat but after getting the tablet? I don’t know. Today’s I think is too thick, but the damage is done. Anyway…

hello! no comic today!

My computer got overrun with adware and spyware this morning, so rather than rolling up my sleeves and trying to fix it, I “threw the baby out with the bathwater” (so to speak) and just reinstalled windows altogether. My tablet is not set up and I haven’t the time to do it AND write a comic tonight, so I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’ll get back to you (hopefully tomorrow – I know, I don’t usually post on Friday! It’ll be fun for both of us)

Interesting side-note.

Over the past two weeks I have taken more time to pre-sketch my ideas in little booklets I learned to make out of paper, before I actually set down to draw them on the computer. The unexpected side-effect of this is that I have a more permanent record of ideas that for one reason or another I don’t go ahead with, and I thought I’d just post them here for interest’s sake. So here are the three that didn’t make it, in the last two weeks:

1.)? There was me with a beard, and the narration said “I don’t draw it in the comic, but sometimes I grow beards.” I guess the original intent was to maybe make a stab at some kind of joke about how I look kind of like Peter Jackson, but after drawing the first panel I ended up thinking “so what?” and that was pretty much where that one ended.

2.) Another one was about what would happen if your friend turned out to be a time-traveling tourist from the future, which seems like an idea you could go a lot of places with, but I sure couldn’t think of any of them. I stared at it for quite a while and then moved on. I might save it for later, if something comes to me.

3.) Lastly, there was one I was going to post yesterday, and I actually drew the entire thing out instead of just giving up after the first panel. It was another in the “Tips for Improved Living” series and it was about convincing people you were telepathic for fun and profit. Unfortunately, when it was done I decided it was too much like a different comic I’d already done. And, I didn’t find it particularly amusing, so I nixed it. And then you guys got the guest comic instead.

If I can find a particularly convincing way to resurrect any one of these ideas, I probably will. But more likely I’ll just move on…

well, that went nicely!

I runned out of comics, so Guest Comics or Nothing At All Week is over. Good Work and Many Thanks to the three people who submitted stuff, and we’ll see you next week when normal updates resume.

okay so here is an idea

The last week of this month won’t have any comics by me, on account of I’m not going to be in the province. It is Spring Break and a friend and I are going to British Columbia to chill at my older brother’s place and do nothing at all.

BUT! Here is the “idea” part! I’ma go ahead and link the template I use for my comics which you can download, and then draw in a comic of your own on, and then e-mail back to me in the days leading up to my departure. Then I will review your submissions and then post them during the week! HOW GOOD IS THIS IDEA HUH??

Get on it! Now is your chance to be a part of the most historically important website since ever*.

okay, you're not going to be thrilled about this

And neither am I, quite frankly. Well, sort of. My oldest brother requires the laptop on which I draw these comics for his own sinister purposes. And by sinister, I mean studious, although they’re more or less the same thing depending on who you ask. ANYWAY the point is that without a Tablet PC the comic can’t be made.

BUT THERE IS HOPE: I have just now placed an order for a Wacom Graphire Somethingorother Tablet Thingy that will allow me to continue creating comics unabated (and perhaps with slightly higher quality and speed so that’ll be nice). But that’ll probably only be here next week, so until then I apologize again and I hope I don’t lose YOU as a READER.

Basically what I’m trying to do here is say sorry, and tell you to check back soon for a continuation. OR, you could just subscribe to the RSS feed and be notified as soon as anything changes.

See you soon!
