Over the past two weeks I have taken more time to pre-sketch my ideas in little booklets I learned to make out of paper, before I actually set down to draw them on the computer. The unexpected side-effect of this is that I have a more permanent record of ideas that for one reason or another I don’t go ahead with, and I thought I’d just post them here for interest’s sake. So here are the three that didn’t make it, in the last two weeks:
1.)? There was me with a beard, and the narration said “I don’t draw it in the comic, but sometimes I grow beards.” I guess the original intent was to maybe make a stab at some kind of joke about how I look kind of like Peter Jackson, but after drawing the first panel I ended up thinking “so what?” and that was pretty much where that one ended.
2.) Another one was about what would happen if your friend turned out to be a time-traveling tourist from the future, which seems like an idea you could go a lot of places with, but I sure couldn’t think of any of them. I stared at it for quite a while and then moved on. I might save it for later, if something comes to me.
3.) Lastly, there was one I was going to post yesterday, and I actually drew the entire thing out instead of just giving up after the first panel. It was another in the “Tips for Improved Living” series and it was about convincing people you were telepathic for fun and profit. Unfortunately, when it was done I decided it was too much like a different comic I’d already done. And, I didn’t find it particularly amusing, so I nixed it. And then you guys got the guest comic instead.
If I can find a particularly convincing way to resurrect any one of these ideas, I probably will. But more likely I’ll just move on…
I like the simplicity of the beard comic. I give it a solid ‘between’
Never, ever, ever think “So what?” to yourself. Just do it with gusto and believe in yourself!!
*manly pose + a thumbs up*
