Growing up we lived in a british built house (overseas). They had a different room for the bath and for the toilet, both rooms in a long hallways with doord next to each other. The switches for the lights outside them on the thin spot of wall between their doors. For 12 years, the light switches were reversed so that the switches would operate the opposite room fromt he door it was closest too. Since we had frequent guests, business associates of my father, it was a thing I grew up with, hearing people flick those switches on and off trying to find the right one. Eventually, most learned the wacky way the switches were set up. Of course, then my Dad finally (after 12 years!) got fed up with it and switched the wires so they worked more logically. For the next 3 years, people who visited us commented, “Oh… you reversed the switches!”
Who would’ve guessed that lightswitches could provide such a neat story!
I remember in our old house, the lightswitches for the hallway were at the end of it, so you had to walk completely down a dark hallway in order to turn on the light.
