Personal Update

My apologies, but updates to the comic are likely to be (more) sporadic for the foreseeable future.

In the past few weeks we’ve discovered that my mom has cancer. There’s a tumour on her kidney, and apparently it’s in her leg and up to her lung as well. She’s currently in a hospital about an hour and a half from here, with a battery of tests to go through and a half-dozen specialists to consult. All this has been happening pretty quickly, so right now we don’t really know a whole lot more than that — things like prognosis and treatment options are still up in the air as they try to get a complete picture of her health. The past few weeks have been challenging for us, to say the least.

Anyway, it might sound silly but I felt I needed to share this so that I wouldn’t feel guilty for not writing comics on days when I’m too sad or tired or just can’t come up with good material. So…sorry.

On the positive side, Mom and Dad and the whole family have been been blessed by overwhelming support from extended family and friends. I personally have been encouraged by this support, by my confidence in our health care system, and most importantly by my faith in a loving God. I remain hopeful that a good outcome will happen, but I know that there’s still a long road to get there.

  1. I’m a very old follower of yours. I check in ever couple months. Have a very close family friend who went through breast cancer this year. Its a tough thing. Your mom has loving family around her. That’a an important support to have. Anyhow, Your mom and family is in my prayers. Seriously.
